Who Introduced Aswasuma Welfare Benefit Program ?
The Aswasuma Welfare Benefit Program was introduced by the current President of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe. The program was announced in May 2023 and is scheduled to begin on July 1st, 2023. The program will provide financial assistance to low-income families in Sri Lanka. The benefits will be distributed based on four social categories: transitional, vulnerable, poor, and extremely poor. The transitional beneficiaries will receive Rs. 2,500 per month until December 31, 2023, the vulnerable beneficiaries will receive Rs. 5,000 per month until March 31st, 2024, the poor beneficiaries will receive Rs. 7,500 per month until March 31st, 2024, and the extremely poor beneficiaries will receive Rs. 10,000 per month until March 31st, 2024.
The Aswasuma Welfare Benefit Program is one of several measures that the Sri Lankan government has taken to address the economic crisis that the country is facing. The program is expected to benefit over 1.6 million families in Sri Lanka.
