Videsha Sewa Sri Lanka was founded in 1984 by a group of Sri Lankan women who had themselves worked as migrant workers in the Middle East. The organization has grown over the years and now has offices in Colombo, Kandy, and Batticaloa. They also have a network of volunteers and partner organizations around the world.
Videsha Sewa Sri Lanka has been recognized for its work by a number of awards, including the UN Population Award in 2004 and the ILO Gold Medal for Social Responsibility in 2010.
